J. Almon, 1773, London. First Edition. Hardback. Near Fine/No Jacket. First London edition, preceding the USA first by 3 years. Quarto, [8], vii, [2], 10-278 pages, text diagrams, front blanks with small waterstain, else a Fine copy. Contemporary diced tree calf gilt with gilt armorial device to boards. [ESTC T101517]. Provenance : Bookplate of Hugh Cecil, Earl of Lonsdale. RARE - although there are a few copies of the USA first, we can find no copies of the UK precedent at all. Note Lambart was an Irishman with a long career in the British Army, reaching the rank of Lieutenant General, and holding his commission until the end of his life. With its Appendix of Moral Observations, it was used as an instructional textbook by both sides during the Revolutionary War. Evans 14815; Sabin 53405.
