Brown boards with incuse blind decoration and ribbed spine, the whole showing wear and with corner bumps and a quarter-inch defect at top and bottom of spine, See scans, End pages clean, Frontis illustration of encampmet on Puget sound protected by tissue that extends from top to within one inch of bottom and is not creased. Title page as shown dated 1857. Intro, contents, list of illustrations, map This folded, pullout map is of the western portion of Washington Territory compiled by the author and showing from Fort Vancouver in the south to Vancouver's Island iin the north. Remarkably fine condition with just a portion of the inner margin missing and not affecting the map. Map extends to "the great Plateau of Spokane" in the east and 49th parallel to the north.. 28 plates and sketches and all checked, present, and in fine condition. Index. 435 pages. A fascinating accout of life in the 1850s , mainly from ShoalWater Bay northward in what is now Washington State.
