About This Item

"Notes On A Cellar-Book" by George Saintsbury with its original dust jacket. 1933 3rd edition; The Macmillan Company; New York. With a Preface by author and historian Owen Wister. Chapters include Sherry and Madeira, Claret and Burgundy, Champagne and Other French White Wines, Spirits - Brandy Rum Gin etc., Beer and Cider, Mixed Liquors, Bottles and Glasses, Cellar Arrangements...and more - please see the photos for the complete list. The dust jacket comes with a clear protective sleeve - not shown. (Please note - the book is not a "bartender's guide" with drink recipes.)

From the Preface: "I have known this delightful book a long while. It stands on a special shelf among other works devoted to civilized meat and drink. It is full of accurate information about Champagne, Burgundy, Bordeaux, Rhine wines, Spanish wines and more than you are likely to meet. Saintsbury wrote it out of a ripe knowledge when he was seventy-five. Much that he tells is of practical use, should you wish to lay down a cellar of your own."

Condition:
Light foxing to the covers. Sharp cover corners. Tight binding with no cracks and no loose pages. Both covers are firmly attached. Light tanning to the front end paper and pastedown; heavy tanning to the rear end paper and pastedown. Light foxing to the outer edge of the text block. Nice interior - the pages are mostly clean with the exception of some occasional pages (primarily the pages at the back of the book) that have some light foxing along the top edge. Overall the book is in Very Good- condition. The dust jacket is un-clipped with the original price intact on the front flap; clean back cover and flaps; there is some foxing along the left edge of the front cover...overall the jacket is in Very Good- condition.
