A lovely set of the Novels of George Eliot in the original publisher's cloth bindings. A set of five works, all of which are undated with the exception of Middlemarch, which is dated 1892. Includes the following works:Middlemarch, A Study of Provincial Life (1892), a new edition illustrated with a vignette title page. Adam Bede, a new edition illustrated with a vignette title page and six monochrome plates. Scenes of Clerical Life, the stereotyped edition with a vignette title page and five monochrome plates, with the plate facing page 83 detached. Prior owner's ink inscription from 1885 to the first free endpaper. Felix Holt, the stereotyped edition with a vignette title page and six monochrome plates. Prior owner's ink inscription to the first free endpaper. Romola, the stereotyped edition illustrated with a vignette title page. Prior owner's ink inscription to the first free endpaper from 1926. Collated, complete. George Eliot was the pen name of Mary Ann Evans, one of the leading writers of the Victorian era. Prior owner's book plates to the first pastedowns. From the library of Robert Mackenzie Marshall. In the original publisher's cloth bindings. Externally, sound. There is some bumping to the heads and tails of the spines and to the extremities. There is some slight loss to the heads and tails of the spines. The hinges are strained but firm. Prior owner's ink inscriptions to some of the first free endpapers and prior owner's book plates to the first pastedowns. Internally, firmly bound. The pages are bright and clean with some odd spots. Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
