About This Item

Los Angeles, CA: Church of the Open Door. Very Good-. 1934. 1st Edition; 1st Printing. Paperback. B&W Illustration; This is a trade sized booklet with cardstock covers and a glued spine. The booklet is in Very Good- condition and was issued without a dust jacket. The book covers have some light creasing and ground in dirt. There is some light bumping and chipping to the spine ends of the book covers. The text pages are mostly clean and bright. There is a previous owner's name and address on the half title page. "During his seminary years Talbot started the Madison Street Church in Oak Park, Illinois. Then Talbot took pastorates in Presbyterian churches at Keokuk, Iowa (1921–1925) , and Minneapolis, Minnesota (1925–1929). In 1929 he was called to the Philpott Tabernacle in Hamilton, Ontario (See Philpott, Peter W. ). From 1932 to 1948 he was pastor of the Church of the Open Door and president of the Bible Institute of Los Angeles (1932–1952). At that time both institutions were on one location at the corner of Hope and Sixth Streets in Los Angeles. Talbot rescued the work from bankruptcy in 1938 through a radio fund drive. After 1953 he served as chancellor of Biola College (now Biola University) and the board named the newly founded Talbot Seminary in his honor." (from the Encycl. Dict. Of Bible and Theology). .
