Along with Hume's "Inquiry into the Human Understanding", Hartley's lengthy essay evolved from an attempt to apply the logic pattern of Newtonian physics to the moral life of man. The studies of Hartley and Hume represent the beginnings of theories which eventually evolved into the concept of Philosophical Radicalism, or Utilitarianism. Original full leather cover, ridged spine with a split but still held by the original binders string, front cover is held only by a string, practically off. The pages are very good, no foxing or tanning, slight tear to a back blank page and front beside the title page, see images.
