Philadelphia: Printed by T. Dobson ..., 1797. The text includes two memoirs (p. 171-252) by Dr. Girtanner on the laws and principle of irritability taken from the "Journal de Physique" and translated from the French by "Mr. Woodhouse of Middle Temple." (p. 44.) First American edition. Octavo. xvi,278,[1] pp. Early nineteenth century binding: Worn and scuffed leather, sunned at spine; joints are cracked and tender. Ink ownership (Isaac Wood, 1831) on ffep. and ex-library: paper spine label, nineteenth-century bookplate at front pastedown, and ink library stamp on t.p. and p. 83. Text is nicely printed on quality paper, and clean. Beddoes (1760-1808), an English physician and philanthropist, was particularly interested in diseases of inhalation.
