Title page in red and black, (1), (3pp) Dedicatio, (11pp) Praefatio, (13pp) Lemmata Capitum, 1052pp, (6pp) Index Praecipuorum Locorum Scripturae Sacrae, (2pp) Index Vocum aut Phraseum Hebraerum & Graecarum, quae in his Libris exponuntor, (23pp) Index Rerum Praecipuarum, (6)pp. Engraved frontis portrait, engraved Kabbalistic plate. Text in Latin, with Hebrew and Greek. Engraved historiated initials, headpieces and tailpieces. Vellum, with embossed floral vignette to boards. Spine in six compartments with raised bands and hand lettering (with erroneous date of 1637). Some discolouration to vellum. Corners bumped, with wear to lower corner of upper board. Text bright and crisp, paper fault to lower margin p 325/6. Light marginal toning. Separate title pages for Books II, III & IV, imprints reading Franquerae, dated 1723, 1723 and 1724 respectively. Complete indices for this volume of the Four Books.

Vitringa, Campegius [Vitringa, Kempe] (1659-1722) Dutch Prophetic Theologian. Hebraist. A Millenarianist with apocalyptic expectation of the Second Coming and a strong believer in the concept of the New Jerusalem with a major transformation of society, after which all things will be changed. He maintained an ancient oral tradition of transmission of the secret doctrines of Kabbalah. Judaica interest.
