Amsterdam: Henri Bordesius, 1711. First Edition. Hardcover (Full Leather). Very Good Condition. 6 books bound in three volumes, leather backed boards. Spines and spine labels rubbed but bindings sound. Scattered foxing but generally clean and unmarked. With an extra engraved title, portrait, 3 folding plates and a folding map - light wear to plate edges, tiny tear to one of the map folds in the margin. The first critical edition of Rabelais - Duchat, urged on by Pierre Bayle (author of the great Dictionnaire Historique), Duchat set out to correct the plague of errors in all the extant editions of Rabelais. "Voici le meilleure et las plus complete éd. de ce roman célébre" Graesse R 7.
