A very scarce and unusual VOLLAND BOOK, every other page is illustrated with 3-color cartoon-like illustrations by [Clare] Briggs with verses by WILBUR NESBIT opposite. Text and illustration deal with the misadventures of typical middle-American children at the turn of the Twentieth century-Skinnay and his friends. Briggs's first book and a rare and early Volland title.
This book is in Fine Condition as stated. There is no wear to the covers with just the merest bump to front bottom edge. The back has a one surface abrasion on back. The pages have no folds nor tears nor stains. The pages are supple with just a slight age toning. Former owner's name in small print on inside front cover and inside back cover. It has been in its Extremely Rare Box. The box is in Very Good/Good minus condition. The bottom is intact and has almost no wear. It has some mild soiling. The former owner's name is in the bottom of the box in small cursive signature. The top has darkening due to age but we are not sure because we have not seen a top before. The top is not rubbed and colors and printing are still strong. The side strips are split at corners and the strip is missing on one long side. A 1/2 inch piece is missing from one short side. These could be replaced. The owner's name is written in small cursive writing in the top underside of the box.
