Original publisher's red pictorial cloth, lettered and decorated in gilt, additional ornamentation in blind pp. xiv, 359, steel-engraved frontispiece, additional steel-engraved title-page and four plates; cloth a little darkened and spotted, light even toning to text, plates occasionally with light spotting, ownership inscription of Algernon Chambers, dated 1869 on front fly-leaf; a good copy in the publisher's binding. First published in this form in 1842. 'My object in writing the following pages was to present my Readers with a faithful sketch of some of the more exciting Field Sports of India; and, to ensure my doing so, I confined myself almost exclusively to the descriptions of such scenes and adventures as either my Brother or I, or both of us - for we hunted in couples occasionally - have witnessed' (Preface).
