About This Item

New York / Portland, OR: W. W. Norton and Company / Powell's Books, 2014. Signed on the colophon by Richard Powers. First edition / First printing. First Limited Edition. Gray cloth in a gray cloth slipcase. Included is a small staple-bound book with an interview with Richard Powers. Very fine in very fine slipcase. Booklet also very fine. Richard Powers made a decision early in his career that he would not sign books. He has made several book tours, whence he would read from and talk about his books, but he never signed them. At some point he began to sign postcards and later bookplates for some collectors who had requested them. This is the first book that Powers has signed. It is a special edition produced by Powell's Books of Portland Oregon. It is in a full cloth binding stamped in silver foil, unlike the paper-covered boards of the trade edition. It comes in a full cloth slipcase stamped in silver foil. It is signed on a specially printed page as Number 45 in Powell's "Indiespensable" Series. Orfeo was long listed for The Booker Prize, one of the first American books to be so honored.
