Volume I: xvi, 228p., [viii] frontis, 21 plates, 3 aquarells, 140 illustrations in-text, folding map at rear; Volume II: 60 plates, Volume III: 60 plates, three volumes complete, text in German, color plates, b&w illustrations. With the bookplate of Robert Pollock Somerville Head. Innoffensive light foxing to the tissue guards (only, not affecting plates) of volume 1. Fold out map in V1 present as called for. Corners bumped, spine tips worn. Original cloth somewhat faded, worn and discoloured. Bindings tight. contents very good.. Publisher's Cloth.

Berlin: Scarabacusverlag, 1922. Hardcover. Collectible - Good. All three volumes bumped, frayed and worn at head and heel of spine and corners of boards, with corners bumped heavily; numerous marks, smudges and stains on covers; page edges tanned, endpapers discolored. Vol. I front hinge cracked with front free endpaper and first several leaves loose; Vol. II scuffed and frayed at edges of boards; Vol. III bumped at edges of boards, scuffed at upper edge of front board. Vol. I illustrated throughout, including a few color plates, folding map; Vols. II and II consist entirely of tipped-in color plates. In German.

All vols. exteriors soiled, boards moderately bowed, prev. owner's bookplate (removed in Vol. 1). Vol. 1, interior hinge split at copyright pg., leaving front board somewhat loose but still well-attached; smudging/staining to front flyleaves & faint water-stain along lower margin of approx. first 25 pgs., light moisture-rippling to final 50 pgs. or so; sm nicks or crinkling to some pg. edges, light foxing to tissue protecting some plates, not affecting plates themselves. Vols. 2 & 3, occasional interior foxing, quite mild, bindings tight; Vol. 2, 1/2-inch chip to edge of first 2 pgs., not affecting plate. The first volume contains the general text, giving a description of the 120 colour-printed plates of carpets and rugs. The plates were originally postcards issued by the Berlin rug dealer Von Oettingen, collectively bought by Grote-Hasenbalg after Von Oettingen's business went bankrupt.Bookplate on front paste-down of each volume, map in vol. 1 slightly frayed in margin. Spines of vol. I & III covered with tape, vol. II top of spine damaged. Otherwise in good condition.l BMC (compact) XI, p. 139.
