[Universal City]: Universal Pictures, 1939. Folio (41 x 27" [104 x 69 cm)]. Vintage color pictorial one sheet. A very good, bright example, with a minor break at the bottom crossfold, minor creases along the foldlines and around the edges of the poster, and a few tiny marginal nicks. A highly pictorial one-sheet for one of West's major film credits (his first at Universal), based on a screenplay cowritten by West and Whitney Bolton (his sole screen credit), adapted from a story by George Green, Tom Buckingham and Clarence Marks first utilized for the 1932 William Wyler/Universal TOM BROWN OF CULVER. The March 1939 release was directed by Joseph Santley, and starred Jackie Cooper, Freddie Bartholomew, Andy Devine, et al. Publicity paper associated with the original releases of most of West's screen credits tends to be uncommon, particularly in agreeable condition, as here. A 1950 rerelease featured entirely different artwork. WHITE D22.

Unfolded, with just a couple of minute nicks in the blank left margin, JUST ABOUT FINE. Jim Jarmusch's first feature film, a landmark, surreal comedy laiden with dead- pan humor. There were two different posters for the movie -- this one, with a scene at a frigid Lake Erie, and another from the film's finale in Pensacola. There are numerous later repros of this poster on the market, but they measure 40 x 27"", and are printed only in black, whereas this poster is printed in black and brown.
