Volume 26 of Thackeray's Works, Kensington Limited Edition, Limited to 1000 copies, 1891. This is No. 618. States 'Large Paper' on spine panel. William Makepeace Thackeray, 1811-1863, was a very prolific Victorian era author. This volume consists of his travel writing and sketches. About half of the sketches have appeared in print in various periodical works. The stories were written upon facts and characters that Thackeray observed while he lived in Paris. The text of one and the plot of two were borrowed from French originals. Frontis tissue protected: 'Little Poinsinet', Original Etching by F W Pailthorpe. Ten more delightful monotone illustrations. Gray cloth binding with beige title pastedown to spine, black titled. Sewn binding tight and solid-in remarkably good condition. Gray cloth has darker smudges like from fingerprints, just a touch of corner wear, spine ends lightly compressed, title panel on spine worn, intact, lettering clear. Top edge gilt. Fore-edge and bottom edge rough cut. Former owner name on endpaper. Pages very clean with wide margins, no markings of any kind, lightly toned-wonderful condition. Handsome solid volume. 405 pages. 9 x 6.25 inches. Estes & Lauriat, Boston, MA, 1891.
