About This Item
From the Note: "The favor with which the first number of this series was received by the public has encouraged the author to present the second without delay."
"In this, as in the former volume, the children are allowed to talk and write in a style beyond their years, yet keeping themselves within the comprehension of children, as it is observed that young persons often think more maturely than they speak, and the desire of the author is to elevate, rather than degrade, the style of conversation."
Many black illustrations.
Good condition. I believe that this is a blue cloth with a fine weave. The book has a design impressed into the board and faded gold gilt text and graphics on the spine. There is much wear to the top and bottom of spine and corners, plus some edge wear. There is also some rubbing and soiling on the covers. End papers are a light yellow and have some discoloration. There is also some writing in pencil: a price of 90 cents and a name and date - Frank Rice, Jan 1st 1866. The pages are evenly tanned with some soiling and spots. The text is clean - free of marks. The binding is tight. Overall, a good reading copy for a book of this age.
256 pages.
