Head and heel of spine rubbed and creased, spine slightly dulled, very minor spotting to rear board, otherwise a very good copy with owner's name in a neat hand to title page.. xxvi, 363 pp., [1] + Plates [46]. Index. Appendices. 21 color and 47 b/w illustrations, some folding. Sm. 4to. Complete catalogue and descriptions of the work of George Baxter (1804-1867), English printmaker, who produced and patented the first inexpensive and commercially viable alternative to hand-coloured prints. Though first involved mainly in illustrations for books, Baxter moved on to plates and large prints, but after a quarter of a century of success his methods were eclipse by photography and chromolithography.
