About This Item
London: Martin Secker, 1918. First Edition. First impression; limited issue. No. 82 of 100 signed copies on Japon. Octavo. Paper-covered boards with printed spine label; 116pp. Two tiny punctures to paper at rear hinge, else a fine, tight copy in the original, rather fragile, publisher's boards. Squire was editor of the London Mercury, an amazingly prolific popular critic and writer of trivial verse, and a frequent tormentor of the more progressive branches of modernism; Virginia Woolf once characterized him as: "...more repulsive than words can express, and malignant into the bargain.
