Black, hard-grain, full leather; blind stamped rectangle on covers enclosed in gilt rules and outer blind stamped rolls; gilt floral rolls along cover edges and on turn-ins; 5 raised bands on spine, gilt rolls and letters; all edges gilt; Turkish pattern marbled end papers. Very clean covers and spine; some rubbing at spine sides; tightly bound; bright, clean interior. Binder's label at fore corner of front free end paper verso 'Bound by | Hub Book Bindery | Cornhill, Boston'. Small inscription on title page 'Helen + Farnham Smith | from Ellen T. Emerson.' Ellen T. Emerson was daughter of Ralph Waldo Emerson; Benjamin Farnham Smith was Concord MA town moderator and state representative. Large 8vo, 554 pp; illustrated illustrated with original title pages and some photos of Milton autograph manuscripts.
