About This Item
Smith, Elder, & Co. London. 1907. TWO VOLUMES IN ONE. 8vo. (7.7 x 5.6 inches). Portrait frontis engravings showing Browning as a young man (dated 1835) opposite the title page of volume 1, and as an old man (1881) for volume 2. Finely bound by Truslove and Hanson of London in contemporary full blue morocco. Spine with raised bands, each with gilt ruling. Compartments with double ruled and single dotted lines. Four red corner dots in each compartment. Boards with double rule and single dot borders, again with red dots to the corners. Front board decorated with elaborate decorative pattern in gilt embellished with another 39 red dots. Rear board has the same outer border as the front but with a similar smaller panel design in the centre, with three red dots to each corner. Four gilt ruled borders to the inner boards. Marbled endpapers. All edges gilt. Some minor foxing to the frontispieces and the tissue guards opposite them otherwise a fine copy in a very attractive decorative leather binding with a hint of fading to the spine. Looks fantastic.
