(First British edition in book form following an eight part serialization and an American edition.) vi, 337; iv, 342; vi, 346; vi, 347 pp. Original maroon cloth with black stamping and gilt spine lettering, pale yellow endpapers. Very Good with slightly bumped corners, worn tips, frayed heads, and rubbed edges, edge of Vol. 4 bumped, offsetting to endpapers, internally clean. Repair to head, tail, and hinges of Vol. 1 only; the rest of the volumes are untouched. A nice set of the penultimate Palliser novel.
Synopsis
Anthony Trollope (1815-1882) was born in London to a bankrupt barrister father and a mother who, as a well-known writer, supported the family. Trollope enjoyed considerable acclaim both as a novelist and as a senior civil servant in the Post Office. He published more than forty novels and many short stories that are regarded by some as among the greatest of nineteenth-century fiction.
