About This Item

London: Frederick Warne & Co Ltd., 1930. Decorative Cloth. Good. 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall. Title continues; Exhaustive Index and Illustrated with 36 coloured Plates, A Complete Sectional Chart of a Modern Express Locomotive, 200 Photographic Reproductions and 25 Diagrams in the Text. Smart looking gilt train decoration on the front cover with black trim, gilt signal decoration on the spine. Cloth colour slightly faded on the spine, rubbing around the edges, split to the cloth at the bottom of the front spine edge, hinges good. Photographic train endpapers, toning to the pages, a few minor marks, foxing to the half title and last page. A very well illustrated volume, including extremely impressive looking colour train illustrations. Pages; XVI, 400. Small tidy looking 1932 signature at the top corner of the front endpaper. The 8 page supplement on the latest railway developments did not make it in time for the initial printing of this 2nd ed. With half a dozen interesting 1940's early 50's train related newspaper cuttings peppered throughout (including one for the world record breaking train the 'Eizabethan', another for Liverpool road station in Manchester- the world's earliest passenger station, and one for the Truro- which did 102.3 mph in 1904).
