About This Item
London: Printed by Thomas Harper, for John Waterson, 1637. [8], 420pp, [4]. With an engraved portrait frontispiece and a terminal blank leaf. Contemporary gilt-ruled calf, later rebacked and recornered, contrasting red morocco lettering-piece. Boards worn. Recent paper label to FEP: 'From the library of D. M. Richards ("myfyr dar") 1853-1913 of Y Wenallt, Aberdare.', recent ink-stamp of Pontypridd Public Library to title page, scattered spotting. A mid seventeenth century edition, much revised and enlarged by herald John Philipot (c.1589-1645), of historian and herald William Camden's (1551-1623), Remaines of a Greater Worke Concerning Britain, first published in 1605. Whilst indeed without the scope and scale of his Britannia (London, 1585), the Remaines contain a wealth of social, linguistic and literary history of the British Isles and is particularly significant in that it includes the first chronological organisation of medieval English poetry. David Morgan Richards (1853-1913), journalist and 'eisteddfodwr', was born near Llanon, Ceredigion. He worked as a representative of the Merthyr Express and the South Wales Daily News and was active within the Welsh community. He is best remembered for his Rhestr Eisteddfodau hyd 1901, which was published posthumously in 1914. STC 4526.. The fift Impression, with many rare antiquities never before imprinted. Quarto.

Antiquates Ltd
Antiquates Ltd was established by Tom Lintern-Mole in 2007; we travel far and wide to buy, sell, and advise on rare books and manuscripts.
Concentrating on hand-press printing and early modern manuscripts, we pride ourselves on offering a varied selection of antiquarian works on a diverse range of subjects, leaning towards the interesting, the important, and the unusual.
We have a countryside bookshop in Wareham; we also regularly issue catalogues - do ask if you would like to be added to our mailing list - and frequently exhibit at regional and national book fairs in London, Bristol, Cambridge, Edinburgh, Oxford, and York.
We also offer a valuation service (for either insurance or probate purposes), as well as advice on library development.
