Whilst indeed without the scope and scale of his Britannia (London, 1585), the Remaines contain a wealth of social, linguistic and literary history of the British Isles and is particularly significant in that it includes the first chronological organisation of medieval English poetry. David Morgan Richards (1853-1913), journalist and 'eisteddfodwr', was born near Llanon, Ceredigion. He worked as a representative of the Merthyr Express and the South Wales Daily News and was active within the Welsh community.
