About This Item

Classic Pictures. Softcover/Paperback. Near Fine. New York: Classic Pictures, [1951]. Vintage original 15 1/4 x 10 7/8" (39 x 28 cm.) promotional pressbook, 8 pp., pictorial self-wrappers. Folded once (as issued), near fine. Richard Wright had hoped to have Canada Lee star in the adaptation of his classic novel, for which Wright wrote the dialogue and collaborated on the screenplay with director Pierre Chenal, but it was not to be and, in the end, Wright had to play the lead role of Bigger Thomas himself. It received a miniscule release in the U.S., and this promotional book for it is extremely scarce.
