About This Item
Stopford Augustus Brooke (14 November 1832 18 March 1916) was an Irish churchman, royal chaplain and writer. He was a correspondent of many famous writers of his time. In 1890-1 he took the lead in raising the funds to purchase Dove Cottage, William Wordsworths home in Grasmere from 1800 to 1808, and establishing it "for the eternal possession of those who love English poetry all over the world."
