A Rosary of Madonnas (Madonna with Jesus - Handmade Art Album with Poetry)

This is a wonderful, handmade album with dozens of illustrations depicting Madonna (a representation of Mary) with her child, Jesus, by various artists. The album is dated 1886 and titled "A ROSARY OF MADONNAS" - it was made by "Robertson Trowbridge" for "Elvira Kellogg Trowbridge" (I was unable to conclusively establish the relationship between Robertson and Elvira). Each page contains the following: a clipped image of Madonna with Jesus; the name of the artist, and the years of the artist's birth/death; the location where the original painting resides; lines of verse from a noted poet. There are 85 pages in all. Artists include Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, and many others. Poets include Geoffrey Chaucer, Lord Byron, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, John Milton, and many others. Full leather binding with four raised bands and gilt accents on the spine, gilt decorations along the perimeter of the inside covers, and gilt page edges on all sides. A custom-made "title page" has been inserted at the front.

Condition:
Staining to the covers and spine. The bottom 2 cover corners are chipped. A small piece has chipped away at the top edge of the spine. The binding used to create the album appears to have been repaired where the right edge of the spine meets the left edge of the front cover. Reinforcement tape along the front/rear hinges between the end papers and pastedowns. The album is tightly bound with no loose pages. Both covers are firmly in place. The pages are lightly age-toned, though not brittle - clean with only an occasional light smudge. There is a 3/4" tear at the bottom edge of the 1st page. Bright gilt page edges on all sides. One of the art images has detached...all others are affixed. Overall the album is in Good condition.
