About This Item

The Rubáiyát of Omar Khayyám translated by Edward Fitzgerald (Methuen & Co. Ltd, second edition 1923).

The illustrated edition by Edmund J. Sullivan was originally published in 1913, this copy being the 1923 second edition.

Hardback. Publisher's red cloth with title and decoration in gilt to spine, with title and rules blindstamped to front board; top edge of page-block stained red. In a dustwrapper. pp [not numbered] with b/w illustrations and colour frontispiece. Size: 7.5 x 6 inches approx. (195mm x 155mm).

Dustwrapper very worn and creased, some repairs/strengthening with archival tape; flap folds stretched; torn and tatty to top and bottom edges with loss, especially to head of spine; dusty and stained, most apparently to verso. Boards lightly knocked to corners; light crushing to spine ends; cloth generally clean and bright wih some fading to upper spine. Lacks front free endpaper (stubb remaining) with foxing/offsetting to paste-down and half-title; foxing offsetting to rear endpaper; scattered foxing and dustiness to pages but generally clean throughout; toning to edges of page-block.

Nonetheless, remaining a nice, attractive copy in the uncommon, albeit worn, dustwrapper.
