New York: The Modern Library / Random House. Good+ in Fair dust jacket. [c.1947]. Hardcover. William Faulkner's novel, first published in 1931, deals grippingly with the difficult subject of rape. The author maintained that he wrote the novel strictly to make money, but it was a success with critics as well as the public. This later edition includes a new introduction by the author. Volume wrapped in jacket with E. McKnight Kauffer illustration to front panel. --- In Toledano spine 8 / blue cloth / gilt titling on red spine & cover blocks / red topstain / grey Kent endpapers / jacket style h, verso lists 329 titles in ML catalog. Likely published c.1947 (though 1932 date appears in book). ML #61.2. --- With underlinings and notations in red ink to perhaps as many as 25 leaves in the back half of the book, age-toning to leaves and mild soiling to cloth, else a tightly-bound, sound copy. Fair-only price-clipped, brittle dust jacket with complete vertical split, several tears and a few chips and general age-toning but mostly intact and wrapped in removable archival mylar protector.; 12mo - 7 to 7-1/2 in. tall; viii, 380 pages .
