Taylor was the geologist and also the wittiest member of Scott's Terra Nova expedition, 1910-13. He had devices and notebooks hanging out of every pocket and a passion for being well equipped. He was enraptured with geology and would immerse himself into any debate. Cherry-Garrard said the arguments he led were legion and the hut was a merrier place for his presence..
