About This Item
10 x 12.75" wooden album with metal hinges. As the title carved into the cover suggests, this album covers Phillip Appleman's time at Kendallville High School from 1940 to 1944 through all of his academic achievements and extracurricular activities. Appleman was extremely busy in high school, maintaining straight A's and accumulating the greatest amount of credits a K.H.S. graduate had achieved at that point, while also breaking several school track records, being involved in basketball, choir, band and orchestra, drama, and participating in Boy Scouts and the Red Cross. The album is filled with newspaper clippings about Appleman's impressive achievements, certificates and awards that he received, and many ribbons. The album briefly follows Appleman beyond high school, including around 20 black and white photos measuring between 2 x 3.75" and 10 x 8" that mostly depict his college days at Northwestern University, where he was invited to join Phi Beta Kappa. Most of the items speak for themselves, but the photographs contain a couple of handwritten captions. Some of the snapshots also show Appleman's friends, his high school and college graduation gowns, and his roles in high school drama productions. While some items are loose, most are glued or taped to the thick orange pages.
