About This Item
New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1890. First edition. Cloth. Very Good. 9.5" by 6.5". Edward L Wilson. The uncommon first edition containing Edward S Wilson's account of his travels in the Holy Land, with one hundred and fifty illustrations from original photographs by the author. Edward L Wilson's travelogue of the Holy Land, which he explored with the aim to give an account of the places made sacred by Scriptural History, without attachment or embellishment; to give a more vivid and truthful insight on the life and practices of the Land. The uncommon first edition of 1890. Wilson visited places at the time rarely visited by tourists, and spent time with the locals and the wandering tribes. This helped him gain some light upon the oriental life, and secured some apt illustrations for the sacred writings, as well as valuable pictures. Illustrated with one hundred and fifty illustrations from original photographs by the author as well as two maps. In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally smart with some shelf wear and a slight bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. With a minor closed tear tot he rear joint, and evidence of an attempted removal of a sticker to the spine. With a library bookplate to the front pastedown, as well as a sticker to the front free endpaper. Inscribed with numbers 22527 to the verso of the title page. Internally, fimrly bound. The pages are bright and clean. Illustrated with one hundred and fifty illustrations from original photographs by the author throughout as well as two maps. Very Good
