Scherer, author of about a dozen books on Japan and one of the founders of the Japan Evangelical Lutheran Church. The principle secrets of Japan discussed are: deep-rooted patriotism, the national language, national character, national discipline, compulsory education, devotion to the Emperor, form of government, family structure, approach to business and labor, a spirit of cooperation in business, inventive skill and virtue of adaptability, radios in every home, the values and social role of women, and press and newspapers, art and religion.
