Stapled wrappers, front cover with original ink scarab drawing by the author mounted. One of 33 copies. A scarce publication by one of levy's unnamed presses, being Edouard Naville's translation of 'The Litany of Ra.' The large original drawing of a scarab on the cover is reflective of levy's interest in the symbol, which he used as the title of his collection 'Scarab Poems.' Though neither his name, nor that of one of his presses, appears in the text, this has all the hallmarks of levy's important mimeographed books, and appears less frequently on the market than others. Gluck's second book is scarce in the first printing, especially signed, and particularly in the time since Gluck was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2020.

1514 RARE Parthenice Mariana Carmelite Mantuanus Hagiography Badius P. Incunable

Baptista Mantuanus was a Carmelite poet whose 15th-century works were influential during the Protestant Reformation. Perhaps the most influential of his works was 'Parthenice Mariana' – a collection of hagiographic poems each of which honored the lives church fathers, Catholic saints and theologians, classical writers and philosophers, mythical heroes, and iconic biblical figures. Notable names include:
• the Virgin Mary
• Catherine of Alexandria
• Hippolytus of Rome
• Euripides
• Jesus Christ
• Hercules
• Hesiod
• Polybius

These poems would become the basis for a new style of writing – the epic poem on religious subjects which heavily influenced Erasmus and John Milton.
