About This Item

New York: Scribners. Hardcover. Like New/Box near fine. This book is like new because it has been protected by the box all these years. In 1929 Scribners started publishing some Will James books and others as Illustrated Classics Editions with the cover having a full page paste down illustration. In 1935 they started producing some of these books in boxed editions, which is what we have. The box is near fine with a label on one end partially torn away. Enough remains to know that the label said SMOKY. <br> This book is illustrated with art by the author. Some illustrations are in color and others black and white. There is no dust jacket. Frazier does not call for one.

Synopsis

Smoky the Cowhorse is a novel by Will James that was the winner of the 1927 Newbery Medal. The story details the life of a horse in the western United States from his birth to his eventual decline. Smoky is born in the wild, but is captured and trained by a cowboy named Clint. Smoky is unusually intelligent, and soon becomes known as the best cowhorse around, and later is known as "The Cougar", the meanest bucking horse on the rodeo circuit.
