About This Item

Norway: (A. S. Kobas - Norway?) Artia Prague - Printed in Czechoslovakia. Good+ with no dust jacket. 1960. Presumed 1st Thus (In Norwegian). Card Covers. The Norwegian Pop-Up Version of Kubasta's 'Snow White'. With the usual delightful paper engineering and design/Illustration by Voitech Kubasta, and with his printed initials on the front cover and fuller name printed on the last page. In the original pictorial stiff card boards with a light blue cloth spine, some 'rubbing' to the cloth but no tears or frays - sound and complete. Tips of the card covers are a little creased/rubbed. The cover depicts Snow White and the Dwarfs, Front board has a movable which alternates between the dwarfs in celebration (with Snow White present) and mourning (with Snow White missing in the magic Mirror). A few faults to the pop-ups from use, and some repairs required to improve it, but overall all work and apart from Pop-up 3, are complete and most are Fine, others have a few problems as noted below. Altogether there are Eight delightful, double-page, full colour pop-ups, some with Moveable tabs. The pages and 'issues' are as follows = The cover tab works, but you have to 'wriggle' it to get it in position, and the reverse of this cover image is - (Pop-up 1) The Evil Queen gazing into her mirror, which can be moved by a tab to reveal an image of Snow White - here the tab has broken off and been replaced with sellotape in the wrong position, which I think is causing the 'movement' issue as the front cover, and this moving image in Pop-up 1 and the cover moveable are connected, o/w all else is VG. (Pop-up 2) Snow White looking at the Dwarfs house - FINE. (Pop-up 3) 6 of the Seven Dwarfs are looking through the Window at Snow Wnite asleep across 4 of their small beds - here the images of Closed Shutters, then the Dwarfs looking down at her, move across on a pullable tab - the end has broken off losing a little off the very end (? Part of one dwarf? ) and the tab is missing (so this is the worst that needs repair). (Pop-up 4) The Dwarfs working in the Mine. This has a central pull up to reveal the path to a (their?) cottage. When this is pulled up the cottage image seems too high, but is present, o/w VG. (Pop-up 5) Snow White feeding the Happy Dwarfs in their Cottage. FINE. (Pop-up 6) Snow White being offered the poisoned apple. FINE. (Pop-up 7) Snow White 'asleep' after eating the poison apple (beneath a cellophane cover to indicate the Glass coffin). FINE. (Pop-up 8) Happy Ever After scene. FINE. This pop-up is seldom seen without needing some repairs, and usually in English or German. This Norwegian edition seems scarce. On the very last page after the final text it states printed in an oval shape = "Kjente Barneeventyr. Gjengitt I Panorama Boker", and 'A. S. Kobas' underneath = (The) Famous Children's Adventure. Reproduced in (a) Panorama Book. I assume Kobas was the seller in Norway? . Delightful pop-up. See Images. ; Oblong Small 4to 9" - 11" tall .
