Condition: Good, with light shelfwear to covers. Top edge of textblock lightly foxed. Binding sound. Inscribed by the author to Elspeth Huxley on title page. Dustjacket condition: Good, with light shelfwear and light sunning to spine. Not price-clipped. 244pp. 12 b/w illustrations plus b/w frontispiece. This book was the first full length portrait John Hanning Speke (1827-1864) whose great achievement was the discovery in 1862 of the main source of the White Nile in the lake which he named Lake Victoria Nyanza. .
