Even wear all around the DJ margins and edges. No other printings indicated Twenty nine articles by seventeen critics. Steinbeck himself contributes six "reactions" to criticism, two of them previously unpublished. The format of this book is larger than the later editions (9"). Important contemporary Steinbeck literary criticism with his responses. Signed and inscribed by Wicker on the front endpaper. There are a few stains on that page, not affecting his signature, date April 10, 1957. Remainder stamp on the top edge. Some minor rippling to the top edge first few pages. Seldom seen signed by either author. No internal marks or writing. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
