About This Item
New York: Grosset & Dunlap, n.y.. Hardcover. Foreword by Douglas Southall Freeman. 8vo. Grey cloth, pictorial dust jacket. 514pp. Frontispiece, illustrations, maps. Very good/fair. Jacket quite rubbed and edgeworn, with large chips and lacking rear flap. Tight and nice ca. 1960s reprint of this 1931 classic with a nice provenance: Front pastedown bears the custom Lincoln-theme bookplate of Justin G. Turner (1898-1976), noted Lincoln scholar and collector and author/editor of several Lincoln volumes. Also, Tipped to front flyleaf is a Typed Note Signed from Turner, 1p, 8" X 11", Los Angeles, CA, 1964 October 26. Addressed to noted Lincoln/Civil War scholar Arnold F. Gates (1914-93). Near fine. On "Turner Investments" letterhead, the noted Lincolnist loans a book to the other noted Lincolnist. Signed boldly in full in blue ballpoint.
