Light edgewear, else Fine and unmarked. 311pp; illustrated in 139 songs w/musical notation, frontis photo of the Singers.
Edition. Hard cover small 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall in red cloth w/stamped black, gold dec. and titles. Near Fine/No DJ (as issued?) Light stain top rear corner page edges not intruding into interior, trace edgewear; cloth clean, titles and gilt dec. bright; square w/firm binding, interior clean and unmarked. 311pp, illustrated in musical scores. LAID-IN is what appears to be the original Opening Night (?) Program from 1871 of the Fisk Jubilee Singers. The Fisk Jubilee Singers introduced 'slave songs' to the world in 1871 and were instrumental in preserving this unique American musical tradition known today as Negro spirituals. And, indeed, the program lists 6 songs as "Negro Melody". Book is in superior condition, very nice package altogether.
