About This Item
London: J. M. Dent & Sons, 1925. First English edition of Conrad's final, unfinished novel. Octavo, original cloth. Introduction by Richard Curle. Near fine in a very good dust jacket with some wear to the spine. Jacket art by Thomas Derrick. Housed in a custom slipcase. Suspense is Conrad's last novel and, tragically, was left unfinished when he died. Still, nearly 90,000 words of his work are extant, and this "huge fragment" forms a narrative of intense dramatic interest and magnificent quality. It is not another sea story, but center round the character of Napoleon Bonaparte.
Synopsis
Suspense: A Napoleonic Novel is set in Genoa in early 1815. It was published posthumously in 1925.
