Garden City: Doubleday, 1940. First edition. Hardcover. Very Good/very good. First edition stated. Inscribed on the copyright page, "For _____/ M. de Angeli". Oblong hardcover in turquoise cloth lettered in yellow, Color illustrated endpapers. Illustrated with color and black and white drawings by the author. Very good. In the original color illustrated dust jacket, chip near the head of the spine and some moderate wear at the tips. The story of two little Quaker girls living in Philadelphia just before the Civil War. They play make-believe and wish they could dress brightly as some of the other girls do but eventually we read what happens to make the Quaker bonnet feel light and beautiful to Hannah.
