Red cloth with white and gold lettering on the spine. Binding and cloth in very good condition, clean and tight and sharp cornered, with floral decoration on the cover, stamped in dark orange. Slight ____ on board edge and head and tail of spine. Dustjacket is white with colorful lettering and decoration, also in very good condition, with only two small closed tears and top edge wear, otherwise beautiful. Original price of $5.95 on the front flap. Translated from Portuguese by Barbara Shelby. 238 pages. First published in 1962 in Brazil. The Third Bank of the River was published just after his masterpiece (Grande Sertao: Veredas). Rosa died in 1967, and Knopf worked quickly to publish his works in the United States. While he is still not well read here, his reputation continues to grow internationally. A lovely copy. Used/Very Good.
