Published between 2013 and 2015. Slight edgewear to top of dustjackets, contents clean. Near-fine condition. Extended editions of short stories by Tolkien, with scholarly addenda. Tom Bombadil is a collection of stories and poems about the character from Lord of the Rings, expanded for this edition with earlier versions and comprehensive notes by Tolkien scholars. Farmer Giles is the story of Farmer Giles and Chrysophlax the dragon, with an added early version and Tolkien's notes for a sequel. Smith of Wootton Major is the last story published in Tolien's lifetime, a tale of a wanderer who finds his way into the periolous realm of Faery. It is here enhanced with with Tolkien's early drafts, notes on its genesis and an alternate ending, and a previously unpublished essay on the nature of Faery. Roverrandom is Tolkien's earliest children's short story, based on his son's loss of his beloved toy dog, and is enhanced by Tolkien's own illustrations. The first three volumes listed have charming illustrations by Pauline Baynes (including the dustjacket illustrations), and the fourth is illustrated by Tolkien, including a colour end-plate.
