About This Item
Chicago: Townsend National Legion, 1937. handbill leaflet. Broadside, 8.5x17 inches, all text, creased, slightly browned. Mailed folded in half per an old transverse crease. The Legion was part of Dr. Francis E. Townsend's movement for old age pensions. The Legion was a way to collect more dues from better off members, here they announce that all Legion members will receive "full value" of subscriptions and materials in return for their dues. The broadside also notes that "The Legion is the first line of defense for the Townsend Organization against enemies without and foes within who may have secured Club membership the purpose of creating dissension or personal gain.
