Nicely illustrated with 11 full-page color plates by Florence Choate and Elizabeth Curtis. Illustrated end papers in color. The front cover features an illustration of Abraham Lincoln reading by a fireplace. The book is a collection of 35 brief biographical sketches of both real and fictional "heroes" and "heroines" such as Julius Caesar, Rip Van Winkle, Robin Hood, Dante Alighieri, Mohammed, Robinson Crusoe, Theodore Roosevelt, Queen Elizabeth, George Washington, Florence Nightingale, Abraham Lincoln, Christopher Columbus, Joan d'Arc, Buddha, Molly Pitcher, Don Quixote...and many more.
Condition:
There is a tiny cloth tear at the bottom edge of the back cover. Sharp cover corners. There is a tiny, light stain at the bottom-right edge of the spine. The black cloth on the spine has sun-faded; the lettering on the spine has dulled. Tight binding with no cracks and no loose pages. The pages are mostly clean with only some random, light foxing; what appear to be small flower petals were left between pages 106 & 107 resulting in a light stain at the top edges; page 61 has a small stain at the outer edge with a tiny hole at the center; pages 3-5 have a couple tiny stain spots at the outer margin. Overall the book is in Very Good condition.
