Edited by James R McGraw. First edition. Richard "Dick" Gregory was an American civil rights activist, social critic, writer, entrepreneur, comedian, motivational speaker, author and actor. He became the first black comedian to successfully cross over to white audiences. Condition: Lightly soiled. Jacket corners and spine ends chipped else better than very good in like jacket.

The book is in Near Fine condition. Then dust jacket is fair with tears and small pieces missing on the backside and top and bottom edges of the spine. This book is about the underground railroad and is written for ages 5 - 7.

Gary, Indiana: The Class of 1925. Oblong. Later called the Emersonian, it is incorrectly reported in most sources that 1925 was the last year when Emerson High School remained an all-white school. As this yearbook shows, however, there was one black student, Frances Anderson (p. 46), who came in 1922 from Matton, Illinois. The editors of the yearbook report they are glad she had moved to Gary, and noted her skill in elocution including the Lake County Declamation Contest, as well as her membership in the Chemistry, French, and Classical Clubs. Interestingly, the yearbook notes she was at the contest but the page devoted to the Declamation Club notes thirty-two names though not hers yet she was noted as an outstanding elocutionist. An exceptionally well-preserved copy of a Civil Rights themed publication from late 1967 (or early 1968), published in association with the Unitarian Universalist Project East Bay in Oakland and Emeryville. Includes a short piece urging readers to "Support the Huey P. Newton Defense Fund" as well as writing by adults and children intended to inform a suburban audience about conditions in the inner city.

Stated first edition of this wildly popular and seminal work which sold over a million copies and remained no. 1 on the Times bestseller list for months. The pages are in near new condition. The only flaw I could find was that a previous owner (presumably) printed "John Irving " at the top of the first fly leaf. The cover and spine are in excellent condition except for some light shelf wear at the top and bottom of the spine, also at the tip of the upper corner of the front cover and an air bubble crease on the inside front cover..The back page of the dust jacket is missing. Remaining Dj has some minor tears around edges. It is un-clipped, showing the $12.50 price. There is also a cardboard bookmark from a bookstore in Burlington Vermont.
