About This Item

-Gaberbocchus Press (1951)-. There is no better description of the book than the title page of the book itself, so I won't try: UBU ROI. Drama in 5 Acts by Alfred Jarry translated from the French by Barbara Wright with 2 portraits of the author by L.Lantier and F.A.Cazals and several drawings by Jarry and Pierre Bonnard printed in red on grey paper and 204 drawings by Franciska Themerson doodled on litho plates and printed in black on yellow paper. All followed by THE SONG OF THE DISEMBRAINING by the same author and the same translator. Published by Gaberbocchus Press, London. First edition 1951, printed at the Themersons home in King's Road, Chelsea. Alfred Jarry's Ubu Roi became one of its most celebrated titles and was published in many editions. Those familiar with Gaberbocchus Press will know what to expect, a visual feast. Condition: This copy does have stamp size damage to the rear cloth, where the cloth has lifted, I guess after something sticky has been removed (image available). There is some light fraying to one corner and very light bumping to another. Usual edge-wear otherwise. The dustjacket has more edge-wear to the head-edge than the tail as the protective acetate cover was a little short. This item was purchased approximately 25 years ago and in that collection until now, which is why I have not erased the previous bookdealers price and note about the back cover. The item is very good in dustjacket. As a bonus the new owner will receive a postcard by Tanya Peixoto "Pie a la Pere" produced by the Institvtvm Pataphysicvm Londiniense (date unknown).
