Original publisher's cloth, spine lettered in gilt, ornamented in blind; pp. xvi, [9]-480, with lithographic frontispiece and additional pictorial lithographic title; cloth a bit rubbed and faded, text with spotting due to paper stock; a good copy. Early English edition, rare in the publisher's binding. The Earl of Carlisle corresponded with Harriet Beecher Stowe and contributed to the cause of abolitionism in the US and the education of former slaves.
