Author's fifth book, and first set in her then-home state of Montana, regarding the breakdown of manners in the face of extreme duress; in this case, a forest fire trapping part of a company of vacationers. Popular in the 1930s & '40s, Walker was nominated for a National Book Award in 1960, and her work, important for its pre-Romantic view of western rural life, had a revival in the 1990s. Hardcover, full ivory cloth, red titling; stated first edition (first printing). Light wear to book, faint waterstains to lower boards; jacket shows light rubbing, minor edgewear, some waterstaining - mostly visible internally. Text clean; [6], 235 pages. . First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/Good. Octavo.
