Early ownership signature on front pastedown, bookplate on rear pastedown. Tanned, a bit of light foxing. Very good. Untrimmed. First American edition, first published in London the same year. Following on his popular LIFE AND VOYAGES OF CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS, in this work Irving describes several important early voyages to the New World, including those of Ojeda, Balboa, Ponce de Leon, and others. This copy contains the four-page advertisement for THE AMERICAN ENCYCLOPEDIA, which BAL notes is inserted at the front of some copies. BAL 10133. SABIN 35205
